Do ALPHANOVA SUN sunscreens protect the skin from both UVA and UVB harmful rays?
Yes. Alphanova Sun sunscreen products provide complete protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays.
Is it possible to tan and get brown when using SPF50 sunscreen?
Yes, it is. SPF… and the subsequent number indicate how long the cream provides protection from the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun, that is, how long you can stay in the sun without getting burned. Generally, 1 SPF equals 10-15 minutes. For people with lighter and sensitive skin, this time may be even less. However, no SPF provides 100% protection against harmful rays. SPF50 blocks 98% of harmful rays, SPF30 blocks 97% of rays, and SPF15 blocks 93% of rays. Despite this, it is recommended to reapply sunscreen at least every two hours, regardless of the SPF level, as wind, seawater, and sand can reduce the protective effect of sunscreen.
Why prefer mineral filters over chemical filters?
Sunscreens with chemical filters contain chemical compounds as UV filters that penetrate the skin and may harm it. Chemical filters are also present in sunscreens for babies and children. Creams that are hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. There are also sunscreens containing both chemical and mineral filters. Therefore, we recommend always checking the ingredients before purchasing sunscreen.
More well-known chemical sunscreen filters and their negative qualities in addition to sun protection:
- octocrylene – when this chemical is exposed to UV light, it absorbs rays and generates active oxygen radicals which can damage cells and cause mutations. It easily penetrates the skin and can remain in the body for a long time. It may also be toxic to the environment.
- oxybenzone – causes skin allergies and harms coral. It affects people on a hormonal level, impacting estrogen production in women and testosterone production in men.
- homosalate – may damage DNA and hormones.
- octinoxate – may cause allergies, dermatitis, and acne.
Why do mineral sunscreens leave a white layer on the skin? Do all mineral sunscreens leave a white layer?
In mineral sunscreens, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are filters that protect against harmful UV rays and leave a white layer on the skin. The larger the particle diameter, the more likely the white layer is. The formation of the white layer also depends on other ingredients in the cream. If different oils are used in the cream, it is easier to apply, and the formation of the white layer is less (a very light layer may remain). However, this white layer protects you and your children against sunburn and harmful rays. With mineral sunscreens, it is important to shake the cream before use to ensure all oils and filters mix well! Even if the cream is in a tube, make sure to shake it!
